saplings, and of flowering broom, and of many-folded, greenest grasses; there
I saw the Cytisus a flowering shrub favored by bees, the Sedge, and the common Honeywort original: "Cerinthe". The Musky Panacea likely an aromatic medicinal herb or "all-heal",
the flowering Buttercup, and the Elaphium original: "Elaphio", also known as Stag’s-horn, and the Saw-wort, and
various quite noble plants, and many other profitable simples medicinal herbs used in their natural state, and unknown herbs and
flowers distributed through the meadows. This whole joyful region, copiously
adorned with greenery, offered itself to me. Then, a little further beyond its middle, I
found a sandy place, or rather a gravelly shore, though in some places it was scattered
with a few bushes of greenery. There, a most delightful Palm Grove presented

other animal. But wandering solitary among the palms—which were not dense, but
spaced apart—and most remarkable to behold, I thought of the Rachelaide, Phafelide, and
Libyade palms Varieties of palm trees and dates mentioned in classical natural histories, such as those by Pliny the Elder, thinking that perhaps they were not comparable to these.
Behold, a resolute and carnivorous wolf appeared on my right side, with its mouth full.
