The New Chemical Light

Indeed, one can only arrive at it by the sole grace of GOD illuminating the intellect, through patient and Religious humility, or through the visual demonstration of an experienced Teacher: for which reason [science] deservedly drives far away from its secrets those who are estranged from GOD.

As for what remains, I only ask the sons of the art Dedicated practitioners of alchemy. that they receive with a grateful soul my desire to serve them well; and when they have made the HIDDEN MANIFEST, and by God's will and constant labor have reached the desired philosophical port A metaphor for the successful completion of the alchemical Great Work., they should, in the philosophical manner, exclude all unworthy people from this art. Mindful of the love toward their needy neighbor in the fear of GOD, and setting aside all vain ostentation, they should sing everlasting praises of gratitude to the Best and Thrice-Greatest original: Optimo ter Maximo; a title for God that echoes the name of Hermes Trismegistus (the "Thrice-Greatest"), the legendary founder of alchemy. for this special gift—without abusing it—within a silent and piously rejoicing breast.
