An engraved portrait shows Johann Otto von Hellwig in profile, facing right. He wears a long, curly periwig and armor with a draped cloak. The portrait is set within an oval frame decorated with scrolls and acanthus leaves. Below the portrait is a rectangular plinth containing a Latin inscription. The engraver's signature, Jacob Petrus of Erfurt, is visible at the bottom right of the plate.
JOHANN OTTO, BARON VON HELLWIG AND KNIGHT, etc.
BARON VON HELLWIG: who was he in spirit, or in the sharpness of a Socratic mind? His noble brow shows it.
He was hated by many who are ready to despise the arts; yet from the famous, his clear glory remains.
O.S.V. added this testimony in his respect.
