Lucchesi-Palli Library original: "Biblioteca Lucchesi-Palli." This was a significant private library belonging to Count Febo Edmondo Lucchesi-Palli, donated to the National Library of Naples in 1888. It is renowned for its collection of theatrical and musical works.
Shelf original: "scaffale." A standard horizontal shelf for book storage.
Reading Desk original: "pluteo." This refers to a specific type of historic library furniture—a combined bookshelf and slanted desk. In many old Italian libraries, books were stored and read at these stations.
Chain original: "catena." This identifies the "chain number." In ancient and Renaissance libraries, books were often physically chained to desks to prevent theft while allowing them to be consulted by the public.
A coat of arms is engraved here, featuring a crowned double-headed eagle, a symbol of high status or imperial affiliation, typical of aristocratic bookplates.
