Lucchesi-Palli Library original: "Biblioteca Lucchesi-Palli." This was a major private collection belonging to Count Febo Edmondo Lucchesi-Palli, which was donated to the National Library of Naples in 1888. It is particularly famous for its musical and theatrical archives.
Reading Desk original: "pluteo." Derived from the Latin term for a screen or shelf, a "pluteo" refers to a traditional combined bookshelf and reading lectern common in historic Italian libraries.
Chain original: "catena." In older libraries, books were physically attached to the desks by chains to prevent theft while still allowing the public to read them.
A coat of arms is engraved here, featuring a crowned double-headed eagle, a symbol of high status or imperial affiliation, typical of aristocratic bookplates.
