A full page diagram illustrates the Tree of Life, known as the Ilan Sefirot. Ten circles represent the divine attributes, arranged in three vertical columns and connected by twenty-two paths. At the very top, the phrase "The Infinite" (Ein Sof) sits above the first circle. The circles contain the names of the attributes and their associated divine names:
1. Crown (Keter) with the name "I Will Be";
2. Wisdom (Chokhmah) with the name "Yah";
3. Understanding (Binah) with the name "Lord";
4. Mercy (Chesed) with the name "God";
5. Severity (Gevurah) with the name "God" (in His aspect of judgment);
6. Beauty (Tiferet) with the name "Lord";
7. Victory (Netzach) with "Lord of Hosts";
8. Splendor (Hod) with "God of Hosts";
9. Foundation (Yesod) with "The Living God";
10. Kingdom (Malkhut) with the name "My Lord."
Small Hebrew letters on the connecting paths represent the alphabet, signifying the building blocks of creation.
This text is written in a dense Rabbinic script. While some ink has bled through from the other side of the parchment, the central message remains clear.
...as Wisdom...? ...Understanding...?Regarding the explanation of the Emanation term: Atzilut refers to the highest of the four worlds in Kabbalah, representing the direct radiation of divine light. and the chain-like descent of the Sefirot term: Sefirot are the ten creative powers or attributes through which the Infinite reveals Himself. upward toward the Infinite, blessed be He and blessed be His name:
Know that before the emanations were emanated and the created things were created, a simple Upper Light filled all of reality. There was no vacant place in the sense of empty or hollow air; rather, everything was filled with that simple Infinite Light. It had no aspect of a beginning and no aspect of an end; instead, everything was one simple, equal light, called the Light of the Infinite original: Or Ein Sof.. When it arose in His simple will to create the worlds and to emanate the emanated beings, to bring to light the perfection of His actions, His names, and His titles—which was the reason for the creation of the worlds—then the Infinite contracted Himself term: Tzimtzum or "Contraction" describes the process by which God "pulled back" His light to create a void where finite existence could reside. at His own central point, right in the middle of His light. He contracted that light and withdrew it to the areas surrounding the central point, and then there remained a vacant place, an atmosphere, and a hollow void exactly at the central point.
Behold, this contraction was uniform all around that empty point, so that the entire space of the void was perfectly circular from every side. It was not like a square with right angles, because the Infinite also contracted Himself in the form of a circle, equally from all sides. After this contraction, when a space of a void and empty atmosphere remained within the very light of the Infinite, there was now a place for the emanations, the created beings, the formed beings, and the made beings. Then, from the light of the Infinite, He drew a single straight line original: Kav, representing a thin ray of light entering the darkness. from His circular light, extending from above to below, descending and lowering into that void. Through this line, He drew forth, emanated, created, formed, and made all the worlds in their entirety. Before these four worlds, there was only the One Infinite and His name was One in a wondrous and hidden unity; no created being has the power to grasp His excellence, for He has no head and He has no end.
And behold, within this void, ten Sefirot were emanated:
The first is called Crown original: Keter.
The second is called Wisdom original: Chokhmah.
The third is called Understanding original: Binah.
The fourth is called Mercy original: Chesed.
The fifth is called Severity original: Gevurah.
The sixth is called Beauty original: Tiferet.
The seventh is called Victory original: Netzach.
The eighth is called Splendor original: Hod.
The ninth is called Foundation original: Yesod.
The tenth is called Kingdom original: Malkhut.
These ten Sefirot are the vessels for the governance of the worlds, and the light of the Infinite clothes itself within them to give them life. They are divided into three columns: the right column, the left column, and the middle column. The right column is Mercy, the right arm; the left column is Severity, the left arm; the middle column is Beauty, the body. The same applies to Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge; and likewise to Victory, Splendor, and Foundation. The Kingdom receives from all of them.
