Last Judgement

A dense assembly of sanctified figures, identifiable by their gold rayed halos, gazes upward in prayer and adoration. On the right, a row of open stone sarcophagi illustrates the moment of bodily resurrection. The figures represent the diverse ranks of humanity, including popes in tiaras, monks in habits, and an emperor, all unified in their spiritual focus.

The painting illustrates the Christian Neoplatonist concept of the Beatific Vision, the ultimate goal of the soul's ascent toward the Divine Light. This theology of spiritual return and the hierarchy of light was central to the Dominican intellectual tradition and the mystical writings of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite.
