Virgin of Humility

The Virgin is draped in a voluminous blue mantle, holding a golden vase containing flowers symbolizing purity and divine love. The Christ Child stands on her lap, gazing at the viewer while angels hold a rich black and gold textile behind the figures. At the base, two angels play a portative organ and a lute, representing the harmony of the celestial spheres.

This work reflects the Dominican 'theology of light' which viewed material brilliance as a bridge to the immaterial divine, prefiguring the Neoplatonic light metaphysics later championed by Marsilio Ficino. The depiction of musical angels aligns with the Pythagorean-Platonic concept of cosmic harmony being reflected in religious devotion.
