Original fileThis illuminated folio features a central text block written in Nasta'liq script, enclosed by a deep blue field heavily decorated with gold-painted mythical creatures and floral patterns. The surrounding border displays dynamic, leaping creatures reminiscent of East Asian motifs, often associated with the 'qilin', set against a serene backdrop of blossoming branches. The refined balance between the calligraphic content and the intricate gilding reflects the high artistic standards of Safavid-era book production.
The 'Gulistan' (Rose Garden) is a cornerstone of Persian literature by the poet Sa'di, containing profound moral and philosophical reflections that deeply influenced the development of Sufi ethics and Persian intellectual life. The text's focus on wisdom, detachment, and the transience of worldly power serves as a quintessential expression of Islamic mystical literature.

Translation
If one day you should speak a few words to a fool in your presence, Such a day will remain as if the wise would remain bewildered in it. Luck and prosperity in one's work are not possible without divine support, In the world, the hand of fate is so great that the senseless leap while the wise are called [unfortunate]. An alchemist, if he falls into the hand of a man of suffering, the fool finds treasure in the ruins. [Prose intro begins]: They brought a Chinese slave girl to a king, and he desired her. In a state of drunkenness, he wanted to be with her, but she resisted, and the king became enraged. And he granted her a boon, for her lip from the agitation of her teeth was drawn [trembling], And her lower lip was dropped to her collar, a kiss like a rock of the side [or a strange rock] in its appearance, She was picking up the essence of the rain if she could lasso it with her heart.
