Original fileThe artwork depicts Abbess Relindis in a brown monastic habit and red veil, gesturing toward a monumental cross. The cross is filled with dense medieval Latin script, functioning as both a memorial and a poetic tribute. The scene is enclosed within a green, organic border, characteristic of the 12th-century manuscript style from which this print is derived.
This image originates from the 'Hortus deliciarum' (Garden of Delights), the first encyclopedia written by a woman, Herrad of Landsberg. It represents the synthesis of theological knowledge and medieval natural philosophy, documenting the intellectual lineage of the Hohenburg Abbey.

Translation
Rilinda abbess Rilindis of the Hohenburg congregation, abbess. O pious flock, for whom the heavenly law is the absence of deceit's dregs. Hope, Sion mountain, bridge to the fatherland, and fountain of good. May He who is the way, who is the light, here be your guide. May the nourishing CROSS protect you. May the peaceful dew and the stable endowment, the virgin flower, immerse you, having mercy on me, always and everywhere. AMEN Rilinda, the venerable abbess of the Hohenburg church, in her time diligently restored the same church, which had been ruined, and wisely reformed the divine religion there, which had been almost destroyed.
Herrad of Landsberg
