Original fileThree saints stand in a row holding books, representing the lower register of a larger fresco cycle. Saint Gregory on the left wears a papal tiara and carries a crosier; the central Saint Boniface holds a martyr’s palm; and Saint Martha appears on the right in lilac and green robes. Faint lines of restoration are visible across the surface of the plaster.
The fresco was commissioned by the Camaldolese order, whose monastery at Camaldoli served as a major center for Neoplatonic thought and was the setting for Cristoforo Landino’s 'Disputationes Camaldulenses'.
