About This Work

In a vast desert camp filled with peaked tents, men, women, and children industriously collect small grains falling from the sky into bowls and baskets. In the center-left, Moses is identified by two prominent rays of light appearing as horns on his head, standing beside Aaron who wears high-priestly robes. The foreground features a variety of domestic activities, including a woman grinding the manna in a mortar and a man pouring the 'celestial bread' into a large basin.

In the Western esoteric tradition, 'manna' and 'celestial dew' (Ros Coeli) are vital symbols for the spiritual essence or 'Universal Spirit' that descends from the cosmos into the material realm. Alchemists often compared their pursuit of the Philosopher's Stone to the Israelites' gathering of manna, viewing it as a physical manifestation of divine grace and astral influence.
