About This Work
The Virgin Mary, wearing a red gown and a green mantle adorned with a gold star, cradles the infant Jesus on her lap. The Christ Child holds a goldfinch, while a young Saint John the Baptist, wearing a camel-hair garment, gazes up at him from the lower left. A bearded Saint Joseph watches the scene from the shadows of the background against an architectural pillar.
