About This Work
The Virgin, dressed in a red gown with a green mantle featuring a gold star, cradles the infant Jesus on a white cloth. The Christ Child holds a goldfinch while looking toward a young John the Baptist, who appears in the lower-left corner wearing a camel-skin garment. In the shadows behind them, an elderly Saint Joseph leans on a staff, observing the scene.
