CHAPTER IV.

That Aristarchus and others wrote about Anagrams. That this clever skill was also applied to the interpretation of dreams, but was later brought into disrepute by various superstitions.

Indeed, regarding the Anagram original: Anagrammatismo, as it first began to be cultivated by Greek intellects, Artemidorus records in Book 4, Chapter 25, that Aristarchus—the grammarian known for his strict standards of criticism—and several others wrote on the subject. He notes that while these men were serious in their scholarship, they were perhaps at fault for not applying the practice specifically to the interpretation of dreams. His words are:
"They teach what an Anagram is,"
