The Birth of the Breath of Shiva

With Hindi Commentary

Having bowed to the Great Lord Sanskrit: Maheshvara (Shiva), the Daughter of the Mountain Sanskrit: Shailaja (Parvati), the Leader of the Ganas Sanskrit: Gananayaka (Ganesha), the Guru, and the Supreme Soul, I worship Him who carries us across the ocean of worldly existence. || 1 ||

I worship—that is, I serve through prostration and other acts—the Great Lord, Parvati, Ganesha, the Guru, and the Supreme Soul who delivers us from the cycle of rebirth. || 1 ||

The Goddess Spoke

O God of Gods, Great Lord! Having shown mercy upon me, O Lord, tell me that knowledge which grants all perfections Sanskrit: Siddhis. || 2 ||

Parvati says: O God of the Gods! O Lord! By showing grace to me, speak to me of that knowledge which accomplishes all perfections. || 2 ||

How was the universe Sanskrit: Brahmanda, literally "the Egg of Brahma" created? How does it change and persist? How, O Lord, does it dissolve? Tell me the definitive truth of the universe. || 3 ||

Lord! How is this universe born, in what manner is it maintained, and how does its dissolution occur? Tell me the final judgment regarding this universe. || 3 ||

The Lord Spoke

From the Elements Sanskrit: Tattvas the universe was born; by the Elements it is sustained; into the Elements it dissolves, O Goddess. Such is the definitive truth of the universe. || 4 ||
