Om! Salutations to the blessed Ganesha. Ganesha is the elephant-headed deity of wisdom and the remover of obstacles, traditionally invoked at the start of Hindu manuscripts.
Om! I shall declare the Chapter on Dreams just as it was spoken by the Teacher, by which the fruits of both good and bad omens are constantly understood. 1
A dream occurring in the first watch of the night watch: "Yama" (याम), a traditional unit of time lasting approximately three hours brings its results within one year. In the second watch, the result comes in eight months; in the third watch, in three months. 2
A dream in the fourth watch provides its fruit within a single month. At the time of dawn original: "Aruṇodaya" (अरुणोदय), the time of the "reddening sun" just before sunrise, the result will manifest within ten days. 3
Beyond this, I shall speak of those dreams that give auspicious and inauspicious results. A dream seen while shouting out or a dream that occurs and is immediately forgotten is fruitless. 4
One should know the first dream [of a series] to be fruitless, while the second provides results. Dreams caused by wind, bile, or phlegm original: "Vātikaṃ paitikaṃ caiva ślaiṣmikaṃ" (वातिकं पैतिकं चैव श्लैष्मिकं). These refer to the three "doshas" or bodily humors in Ayurveda. If a dream is caused by a physical imbalance or anxiety, it is not considered prophetic., or those accompanied by anxiety, are likewise ineffective. 5
In a dream, a person usually gains success. To climb upon a cow, a bull, an elephant, a palace, a mountain, or a large tree; to be smeared with excrement, to weep, to die, or to cross over a path—these are blessed omens in a dream. 6
If a person alone climbs a milky tree or a fruiting tree, or wakes up amidst royal flowers, they shall quickly obtain wealth. 7
He upon whose head liquid flows at the end of a dream... wealth will quickly come to him, and his royal consecration shall occur. 8
He who sees at the end of a dream a king, an elephant, a horse, gold, a bull, a cow, or the god Rudra A fierce form of Shiva, he shall surely prosper. 9
If a man [in a dream] crosses a village threatened by thieves or crosses the ocean, even if he was born into a family of servants, he too will become a king. 10
Seeing the wife of a serpent, a snake, a victory, gems, sandalwood, sandals, or a fertile field—Lakshmi The goddess of fortune and prosperity is designated for him. 11
Leaves, flowers, fruit, water...
