and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because you have obeyed my voice.
19 Then Abraham returned to his young men original: "oikenúmut," likely referring to his servants or those waiting at the camp and they rose up and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham lived at Beersheba.
20 And it came to pass after these things, that it was told to Abraham, saying, Behold, Milcah, she also has borne children to your brother Nahor;
21 Huz his firstborn, and Buz his brother, and Kemuel the father of Aram,
22 And Chesed, and Hazo, and Pildash, and Jidlaph,
23 And Bethuel. And Bethuel begot Rebekah: these eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
24 And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bore also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
AND Sarah was a hundred and twenty-seven years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.
3 And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth the Hittites, saying,
4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a burying place original: "posekinnittuae ohke" with you, that I may bury my dead from before my face.
5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,
6 Hear us, my lord: you are a mighty prince original: "manittoe Sontim," literally a "Godly leader" or prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres burial places bury your dead; none of us shall withhold from you his sepulchre from you, but that you may bury your dead.
7 And Abraham stood up and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8 And he spoke with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead from before my face; hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9 That he may give me the cave original: "wuthaffunnegk," meaning a place of stone of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field; for as much money original: "nooch," value or price as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a burying place among you.
10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11 No, my lord, hear me: I give you the field, and the cave that is therein, I give it you; in the presence of the sons of my people I give it you: bury your dead.
12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13 And he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, But if you will give it, I pray you, hear me: I will give you money original: "teaguash," things of value or goods for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
15 My lord, hearken to me: the land is worth four hundred shekels original: "shekellash," the Massachusett pluralization of the Hebrew currency unit of silver; what is that between me and you? bury therefore your dead.
16 And Abraham hearkened to Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the hearing of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant original: "kodtauwompafue-nuog," those who trade or travel.
17 And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees original: "matugquash" that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18 To Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the sons of Heth.
AND Abraham was old, and well stricken in age original: "sepepomantam," lived long: and Jehovah had blessed Abraham in all things.
a Gen. 47. 29.
2 And Abraham said to his eldest servant original: "mafugkenutche wuttinnumoh" of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray you, your hand under my thigh:
3 And I will make you swear by Jehovah, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 But you shall go to my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.
5 And the servant said to him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land: must I needs bring your son again to the land from whence you came?
6 And Abraham said to him, Beware that you bring not my son there again.
