The Sutra of the Vast, Pure Dhāraṇī of the Diamond Altar Spoken by the Buddha

Thus have I heard. At that time, the World-Honored One, having finished his meal, sat in the full lotus position cross-legged upon a precious throne. With right mindfulness manifest, he sat with an upright body and remained so. The Tathagata Tathagata: An honorific title for the Buddha, meaning "One who has thus come" or "One who has thus gone." original: "如來" then entered the Samadhi Samadhi: A state of deep meditative concentration or absorption. original: "三昧" also called Samadhi of the Manifestation of the Equality of All Phenomena.

At that time, the entire assembly could not see the Buddha. They asked one another, "Where is the Tathagata dwelling now?" All of them had this thought: "May the World-Honored One..."

...smelling various fragrances. Furthermore, make this vow: "I would rather have my tongue cut out by a hundred thousand blades than use a mouth that has broken the precepts to eat the pure food of a hundred flavors provided by devout donors Dana-pati: A lay patron or donor who supports the monastic community. original: "檀越"."

Furthermore, make this vow: "I would rather have my body hacked and chopped by a sharp axe than allow a body that has broken the precepts to greedily crave pleasant sensations."

Furthermore, make this vow: "May all sentient beings attain Buddhahood." If a Bodhisattva does not make these vows, they commit a minor transgression Light defilement: A category of secondary offenses in the Bodhisattva code that hinder spiritual progress. original: "輕垢罪".
