union and lack coming and going. The eye does not know of itself, 'I can see forms'; the ear does not know of itself, 'I can hear sounds'; the nose does not know of itself, 'I can smell fragrances'; the tongue does not know of itself, 'I can taste flavors'; the body does not know of itself, 'I can feel touch'; the mind does not know of itself, 'I can know phenomena.'
The eye cannot know the intrinsic nature of form; the ear cannot know the intrinsic nature of the eye; and so on, even to the mind, which cannot know the intrinsic nature of the phenomena it perceives. Phenomena also do not know the intrinsic nature of the mind. It is also like this, Mañjuśrī.
The eye does not belong to form, and form does not belong to the eye. Because they do not abide in distinctions but in their own intrinsic nature, even the mind and phenomena must be like this. Without knowledge and without a master, their intrinsic nature is empty.
