Illustrated Catalog of Examined Antiquities, Volume 1 original: 博古圖 (Bógǔ Tú). This refers to the Xuanhe Bogu Tu, a monumental Song Dynasty catalog of imperial bronze collections compiled between 1111 and 1125.
The accompanying woodcut illustration depicts a ritual bronze vessel—specifically of the 'gui' variety though categorized under the broader 'yi' heading—featuring two prominent handles shaped like animal heads. The body and base are adorned with intricate lozenge and geometric patterns, showcasing the highly developed aesthetic and technical skill of the ancient casters whose work the Song Dynasty scholars sought to preserve and understand.
