Its territory spans 290,000 square li li: a traditional Chinese unit of distance; here Wei Yuan uses it to estimate area with a population of twelve million. The soil is fertile and the produce is plentiful, though the lands of the Tafilalt original: 達非里 (Dafeili) tribe are comparatively barren. This nation formerly held a place in the international community, but a later king was wicked, and the land was eventually seized by the Arabs original: 阿丹 (Adan).
The king was reduced to a mere tribal chieftain and grew increasingly decadent and chaotic. The soldiers under his command behaved like wild beasts, and for over two hundred
years, the people became like savages. Recently, the kingdom has been restored, with Morocco Marrakesh once again serving as the national capital. The new king is working hard to
