Alentejo original: 阿領底若 (Ālǐngdǐruò) To the east, it is bounded by Spain original: 大吕朱 (Dà Lǚzhū); a variant transcription of "Great Luzon," the common Qing-era name for the Spanish Empire; to the south, it borders Algarve; it governs ten small districts; to the northwest, it is bounded by Estremadura.
Algarve original: 阿爾牙威 (Ā'ěryáwēi) To the east, it borders Spain; to the north, it borders Alentejo; to the southwest, it is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean. It governs four small districts.
Merchant ships from five routes and all four directions gather in the capital city Lisbon. There is a great river called the Tejo River original: 德若河 (Déruò Hé); the Tagus which flows past the west of the capital and enters the sea. Throughout the kingdom, there are six major markets and twenty-five thousand springs. The nation has two universities original: 學 (xué); literally "places of learning" called Coimbra original: 阮物 (Ruǎn-wù); likely a phonetic rendering related to the University of Coimbra or Evora, the two historical centers of Portuguese higher education.
