...two rolls each of gold-threaded silk original: 片金 (piànjīn); a luxury fabric where gold leaf is pasted onto paper, cut into strips, and woven with silk; three rolls each of python satin and Japanese-style satin original: 倭緞 (wōduàn); seven rolls of decorative satin; six rolls of flowered satin; and four rolls each of shimmering shot silk, flowered satin, blue-flowered satin, blue satin, dark green satin, hat-grade satin, and thread-woven satin. Furthermore, there were twenty-two rolls each of damask and spun silk, thirteen rolls of gauze, and seven rolls of fine silk.
Because of the Dragon Boat Festival original: 端陽節 (duānyángjié); a traditional holiday occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, additional rewards were granted to the King, consisting of forty rolls of fine gauze, one hundred rolls of grass cloth original: 葛 (gé); a lightweight, breathable textile made from kudzu fibers, highly valued for summer wear, scent pouches, incense bead strings, palace fans, and medicinal lozenges. The primary and secondary envoys were also granted ■? grass cloth, scent pouches, incense strings, and medicinal lozenges. These were given out of imperial concern for those who had traveled from such great distances, demonstrating exceptional generosity.
In the twenty-fifth year of the reign [1760], a commoner named Lin Liu from Nanhai County, Guangdong, was found to have joined the Western religion. He went so far as to change his clothing and appearance referring to the adoption of Western-style dress or the cutting of the queue, which was a serious offense, marry, and father children. After a report was submitted by Li Shiyao, the Viceroy of Liangguang, it was requested that the case be handled according to the legal precedent for "heterodox ways misleading the masses" original: 左道惑眾 (zuǒdào huòzhòng); a charge used by the Qing state to suppress unsanctioned religious movements or foreign influences deemed socially disruptive. He was sentenced as an accomplice to preserve local customs, and the Ministry of Punishments upheld the decision.
