First comes the cold, followed by fever. The heat is fierce and stifling. When the heat stops, sweat breaks out, and the illness is difficult to cure. One should pierce the "Cleft Center" to draw blood. One source says the point Jinmen; another says Weizhong.
In a case of Foot Shaoyang Foot Shaoyang: The Gallbladder meridian, running along the sides of the body fever, the body feels weary and weak. Chills are not severe, and the heat is not severe. The patient dislikes seeing people and feels a sense of dread or palpitation. There is much heat and sweating. In severe cases, pierce the Foot
Shaoyang meridian. Needle the Xiaxi point to a depth of 0.3 inches; moxibustion of three cones may be used.
In a case of Foot Yangming Foot Yangming: The Stomach meridian, running along the front of the body fever, the patient first feels cold, shivering and trembling. Once the cold is severe, a fever eventually follows. When the heat dissipates, sweat breaks out. The patient loves to see the light of the sun and moon or the heat of a fire, which makes them feel comfortable. Pierce the top of the foot on the Foot Yangming meridian. Needle the Chongyang point to a depth of 0.3 inches; moxibustion of three cones may be used.
In a case of Foot Taiyin Foot Taiyin: The Spleen meridian fever, the patient feels unhappy and sighs frequently. They have no appetite and experience much cold, followed by fever and sweating. When the illness reaches its peak, they are prone to vomiting. Once the vomiting ends, the illness subsides. Treat it immediately at the onset. Needle the Gongsun point to a depth of 0.4 inches; moxibustion of three cones may be used.
In a case of Foot Shaoyin Foot Shaoyin: The Kidney meridian fever, the patient suffers from severe vomiting. There is much cold and heat, but more cold than heat. The patient desires to stay in a room with the doors and windows closed. This condition is difficult to cure. Needle the Dazhong point 0.2 inches and the Taixi point 0.3 inches; use three cones of moxibustion on each.
In a case of Foot Jueyin Foot Jueyin: The Liver meridian fever, the patient has lower back pain and fullness in the lower abdomen. Urination is difficult, resembling a blockage urinary retention, yet it is not a true blockage. They urinate frequently and feel fearful. Their energy is deficient, and they feel distressed in the abdomen. Pierce the Foot Jueyin meridian. Needle the Taichong point to a depth of 0.3 inches; moxibustion of three cones may be used.
In a case of Lung Fever Intermittent fever affecting the Lung system, the patient's heart feels cold. Chills are severe, followed by heat. During the heat, they are easily startled, as if they are seeing visions. Pierce the Hand Taiyin Lung and Yangming Large Intestine meridians. Needle Lieque 0.3 inches with five cones of moxibustion; needle Hegu 0.3 inches with three cones of moxibustion.
