7. In the present work, the eighth chapter, the one inscribed above, is manifest to all and is very useful. It is genuine, and in the order of reading.
The purpose of the present book
of all the voices here
of the five voices, he says
of species, differences, properties
and accidents toward
the categories of Aristo-
tle they reach
There are twelve chapters. In the didactic manner. The genuine reading. And the reference as to under which part. The purpose of the present book, therefore, is to teach us the differences of the five voices of the most logical and spiritual species. For this reason, we also call them accidents. The voice, as has been said, is logical and is by nature, as the voice of a human. Or it is from art, and the air is always struck, falling from the lungs up to the mouth. Spiritual grace is the heart filled with God and the Holy Spirit and enlightened, having power. Nature again signifies the living being and the choice and the movement before the emergence. And the state of the God who breathed. The word, however, is the will of God, the spirit of life. The fifth voice, that of nature, is subdivided into the three powers: the seminal, the augmentative, and the nutritive. From each side appear also the five sensitive powers, the soul being divided into five. And it is necessary for everyone to understand the logical mixture that the body is ensouled and has the power of God. For every living being consists of five powers. For the human uses them through the five senses as through the hands of the spirit and of the word. If we were to say the mind is our own, the mind also dwells in the power of the soul and governs it. And again, let us learn that God, the seminal generation of the whole, proceeded from the Creator and the confirmed and fulfilled voices. Note that logical voices are those that are with a certain logical need, that is, the syllogistic arguments of genera, species, differences, properties, and accidents. It falls within the voices from within. The entire category underlies the logical difference and the rest as in the syllogisms from the need of three terms. All things also possess three, and again far, to undertake into the whole of philosophy. For the "know the one praying" is clearly the know thyself.
