Pseudo-Dionysius Areopagita; Maximus Confessor (scholia); George Pachymeres (paraphrase) · 1615

An ornate printer's device or emblem featuring a central oval frame. Inside the frame, a serpent is entwined around a staff or branch amidst flames. The frame is flanked by two female figures representing virtues or muses. Above the frame are two cherubs holding a monogram "IHS" with a cross. Below is a grotesque mask. A motto runs around the oval: "IF GOD BE FOR US, WHO CAN BE AGAINST US."
