food: and it was so. * And God saw all 31
that He had made, and behold, it was very good: and there was evening, and
there was morning, the sixth day.
1 And the heavens and the earth and all their order were completed.
His works which He had made: and He rested on the seventh day from all His works which He had made. * And God blessed 3
the seventh day, and hallowed it: because in it He rested from all His works which God began to do. * This 4
is the book of the creations of heaven and earth, in the day that God created the heavens and the earth. * And all the wild herbs 5
before they were upon the earth, and all the wild grass
before it had sprouted, for the Lord God had not yet rained upon the
earth: and there was no man who worked the earth. * But a 6
fountain rose from the earth and watered all the face of the earth. * And the Lord God fashioned man from dust of the earth: and 7
He breathed into his face the breath of life, and man became a living soul. * And God planted a paradise in Eden 8
toward the east, and He placed there the man whom He had fashioned. * And 9
the Lord God made to grow from the earth every tree beautiful to look upon, and pleasant for food: and the tree of life in the
midst of the paradise, and the tree of knowing the knowledge of good
and evil. * And a river flowed from Eden to water the 10
paradise: and from there it divided into four channels. * The name of the 11
first is Phison: it is that which encompasses all the land of Hevilath, where the gold is. * And the gold of that land is 12
noble: and there is the ruby and the dahanak a precious stone, likely onyx or carbuncle stone. * And 13
the name of the second river is Gehon: it encompasses all the land of the Ethiopians. * And the third river is Tigris: 14
it is that which goes opposite Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. * And the Lord God took the man whom He 15
had fashioned, and placed him in the paradise of delight to work it
and to keep it. * And the Lord God commanded the man, and said: 16
Of all the trees that are in this paradise, you shall eat.
eat: for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. original: "մահու մեռանիցիք" - die a death * And the Lord God said, It is not good for man 18
to be alone, let us make for him a helper like unto him.
the birds of the heaven: and brought them to Adam to see
what he would call them: and whatever Adam called every living breath, that is its name. * And Adam called 20
the names of all the cattle, and all the birds of the heaven,
and all the wild beasts: but for Adam there was not found a helper like unto him. * And the Lord God cast a stupor upon 21
Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and filled in with
flesh in its place. * And the Lord God built the rib which He took from 22
Adam into a woman, and brought her to Adam. * And Adam said: Behold 23
now, bone from my bones, and flesh from my flesh: she shall be called woman, because she was taken from her man. * For 24
this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall go
after his wife: and the two shall be one flesh. And 25
the two were naked, Adam and his wife, and they were not ashamed.
1 But the serpent was more cunning than all the beasts that are upon
the earth which the Lord God had made. And the serpent said to the woman:
Why is it that God said, Of all the trees that are inside
2 in this paradise, you shall not eat? * And the woman said to the serpent:
3 Of the fruit of the trees of the paradise we shall eat: * but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the paradise, God said, You shall not eat of it, and you shall not touch it, so that you may not die. * And the serpent said to the woman: You shall not surely die. 4
5 * For God knew that in the day you eat of
it, your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as gods,
6 knowing good and evil. * And the woman saw
that the tree was good for food, and pleasing to the eyes to look upon, and beautiful to see: and she took of its fruit, and
ate: and gave to her man with her, and they ate. * And the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and
they sewed fig leaves together, and made for themselves coverings. 7
8 * And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the paradise in the evening: and Adam and his wife hid
9 themselves from the face of the Lord God among the trees of the paradise. * And the Lord God called 10
Adam, and said to him, Where are you? * And he said:
I heard your sound in the paradise here, and I feared: because
11 I was naked, and I hid myself. * And He said to him, Who told
you that you are naked? Unless you have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you
not to eat from, have you eaten
12 of it? * And Adam said, The woman whom You gave to be with
13 me, she gave me from that tree and I ate. * And the Lord
God said to the woman: * Why have you done this? And the woman said:
14 The serpent deceived me, and I ate. * And the Lord God said to the serpent:
Because you have done this, cursed shall you be among all cattle and among all the wild beasts of the earth: upon your
breast and your belly you shall walk, and dust you shall eat
15 all the days of your life. * And I will put enmity between
you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed: he shall watch for your head, and you
16 shall watch for his heel. * And to the woman He said:
I will greatly multiply your sorrows and your groanings: in sorrow you shall give birth to children: and to your man
shall be your return, and he shall rule over you. * And to Adam He 17
said: Because you listened to the voice of your wife, and ate
from that tree, of which I commanded you
not to eat, and you ate of it: cursed shall the earth be
in your works: in sorrow you shall eat of it all the days of your
18 life. * Thorns and thistles it shall sprout for you: and you
19 shall eat the wild herb. * By the sweat of your face you shall eat
your bread, until you return to the earth from whence you were taken: for
earth you were and to earth you shall return. * And Adam called the 20
name of his wife, Life original: "կեանս" (Kians - Eve): because she is the mother of all living.
21 * And the Lord God made for Adam and his wife garments
22 of skin, and clothed them. * And the Lord God said: Behold
Adam has become as one of us, to know good and evil:
and now, lest he reach out his hand and take of the tree
23 of life, and eat and live forever. * And the Lord God cast
him out of that paradise of delight,
24 to work the earth from whence he was taken: * and He cast out Adam, and settled him opposite the paradise
of delight: and He commanded the cherubim and the flaming sword to keep around the path of the tree of life.
1 And Adam went in unto Eve his wife, and she conceived and gave
2 birth to Cain, and said: I have obtained a man from the Lord. * And
she added to give birth to his brother Abel: and Abel became
3 a keeper of sheep, and Cain worked the earth. * And it happened
after days, that Cain brought of the fruit of the earth an offering to the Lord.
