4 and Abel original: "ած և հաբէլ" — note: the text begins with a fragment, likely referencing the offerings of Cain and Abel from the firstlings of his flock and from their fat portions: and God looked upon Abel and his offerings: 5 * but upon Cain and his sacrifices He did not look: and Cain was very saddened, and his face fell. 6 * And the Lord God said to Cain: Why are you saddened, 7 or why has your face fallen? * Is it not so that if you offer rightly, and do not divide rightly, you have sinned? Be silent, for his turning shall be to you, and you shall rule over him. 8 * And Cain said to Abel his brother: Come, let us go into the field: and it happened, as they went into the field there, Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. 9 * And the Lord God said to Cain: Where is Abel your brother? And he said: I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper? 10 * And God said: What have you done? The cry of your brother's blood cries out to Me from the earth: 11 * and now, cursed shall you be upon the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hands: 12 * for you shall work the earth, and it shall no longer give you its strength: wandering and trembling you shall be upon the earth. 13 * And Cain said to the Lord God: My punishment is greater than that I should be forgiven: 14 * if You cast me out this day from the face of the earth, and from Your face I shall be hidden: and I shall be wandering and trembling upon the earth: and it shall be that whoever finds me shall kill me. 15 * And the Lord God said to him: Not so. Whoever kills Cain, sevenfold vengeance shall be taken: and the Lord God set a mark upon Cain, so that whoever found him should not kill him. 16 * And Cain went out from the face of God: and he dwelt in the land of Nod wandering/exile opposite Eden. 17 * And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch: and he was building a city, and he named the city by the name of his son Enoch. 18 * And Enoch was the father of Gaidad; and Gaidad was the father of Maleleel; and Maleleel was the father of Mathusala; and Mathusala was the father of Lamech. 19 * And Lamech took for himself two wives: the name of one was Adah, and the name of the second was Sillah. 20 * And Adah bore Jabel: he is the father of those who dwell in tents of herdsmen: 21 * and the name of his brother was Jobal: he is the father who taught [the use of] songs and lyres: 22 * And Sillah bore Thobel: and he was a master craftsman of bronze and iron: and the sister of Thobel was Noema. 23 * And Lamech said to his wives, to Adah and to Sillah: Listen to my voice, wives of Lamech, and give ear to my words: for a man I killed for a wound to me, and a young man for a bruise to me: 24 * for if sevenfold vengeance shall be sought from Cain, then from Lamech seventy and seven. 25 * Adam knew his wife again, and she conceived and bore a son: and he named his name Seth: * he says: For God has raised up for me another seed in place of Abel, whom Cain killed. 26 * And to Seth was born a son, and he named his name Enoch: he hoped to call upon the name of the Lord God.
