CH. 11

1 And all the earth was of one language, and one speech of all: * And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar: and they dwelt there: * and one said to his neighbor, come, let us cast bricks, and bake them with fire: and the brick became for them in the place of stone, and bitumen in the place of mortar: * And they said, come, let us build for ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which may reach unto the heavens: and let us make for ourselves a name before we are scattered upon the face of all the earth: * And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men were building: * and the Lord said: behold one nation and one language for all, and this they have begun to do: and now nothing shall be lacking to them, of all that they may desire to do: * and come, let us go down and there confuse their languages, so that they may not understand the speech of each other: * And the Lord scattered them from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they stopped building the city and the tower: * for this reason its name was called Confusion: for there the Lord God confused the languages of all the earth: and from thence the Lord God dispersed them upon the face of all the earth.
10 * And these are the generations of Shem: Shem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad in the second year after the flood: * And Shem lived after he begot Arphaxad five hundred years: and he begot sons and daughters, and he died: * And Arphaxad lived a hundred and thirty-five years, and he begot Salah: * and Arphaxad lived after he begot Salah three hundred and thirty years: and he begot sons and daughters, and he died: * And Salah lived a hundred and thirty years, and he begot Eber: * and Salah lived after he begot Eber

CH. 12

1 And the Lord said to Abram: Go out from your land, and from your kindred and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you: * and I will make you a great nation: and I will bless you, and make your name great: and you shall be blessed: * and I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse: and in you shall all the nations of the earth be blessed: * And Abram went as the Lord spoke with him: and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he went out of Haran: * And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all the possessions which they had acquired, and all the souls which they had acquired in Haran: and they went to go to the land of the Canaanites: and they came to the land of Canaan: * And Abram traveled through the land in its length as far as the place of Shechem, to the high oak: but the Canaanites were dwelling at that time in the land: * And the Lord appeared to Abram, and says to him: To your seed I will give this land: and Abram built there an altar to the Lord who appeared to him: * And he departed from thence to the mountain to the east of Bethel: and he struck his tent there in Bethel, the sea to the west and towards the east: and he built there an altar to the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord: * Abram moved, and went and dwelt in the desert: * And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there as a sojourner: for the famine was strong in the land: * And it came to pass as he approached
