Abram approached to enter Egypt, and he said to Sarai his wife, "I know that you are a beautiful woman. * Therefore, 12 if the Egyptians see you, and say that you are his wife, they will kill me, but they will spare you. * Say that I am your sister, so that it may go well with me because of you, and my soul may live on your account." * 14 And it came to pass when Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. * The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and praised her before Pharaoh; and they took her into Pharaoh's house. * And they dealt well with Abram for her sake; he had flocks, and cattle, and asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and mules, and camels. * And God afflicted Pharaoh with great and evil afflictions, and his house, on account of Sarai, Abram's wife. * Pharaoh called Abram and said to him, "What is this that you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she is your wife? * Why did you say she is my sister, so that I took her to myself for a wife? And now, behold, your wife is before you; take her and go away." * And Pharaoh gave orders to his men regarding Abram, to send him and his wife and all that he had away, and Lot with him.
13 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the wilderness. * And Abram was very wealthy, in cattle and in silver and in gold. * And he went on his journey from where he had come in the wilderness, as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, * to the place of the altar which he had made there at the first; and there Abram called upon the name of the Lord God.
in its length and in its breadth, for I will give it to you." * And Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar to the Lord God.
15 And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, and Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the nations, * that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, and with Shinab king of Admah, and with Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and with the king of Bela, which is Zoar. * All these joined together in the Valley of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea. * Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. * And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, and they smote the giants in Ashtaroth Karnaim, and the mighty nations that were with them, and the Zuzim in Ham, their city; * and the Horites in the mountains of Seir, as far as the plain of Paran, which is in the wilderness. * And they turned and came to the Spring of Judgment, which is Kadesh, and they smote all the princes of the Amalekites, and all the inhabitants of Hazazon-tamar. * And the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar, went out and joined battle with them in the Valley of Siddim, * against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of the nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings against five. * And the Valley of Siddim was full of bitumen pits. And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and those who remained fled to the mountain region. * And they took all the spoil of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their provisions, and went their way. * They also took Lot, the nephew of Abram, and his goods, and departed; for he was living in Sodom. * A man from those who escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew; and he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, who were allies of Abram. * And when Abram heard that his nephew Lot was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, three hundred and eighteen of them, and pursued them as far as Dan, which is to the left of Damascus. * And he brought back all the spoil of Sodom, and his brother Lot, and all his goods he brought back, and the women and the people. * The king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from the slaughter of Chedorlaomer, and the kings who were with him, in the Valley of Shaveh, which is the King's Valley.
16 * And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; for he was a priest of God Most High. * And he blessed Abram and said, * "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, who created heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him tithes of all. * And the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the people, and take the goods for yourself." * And...
