Acts of the Martyrs and Saints, Volume 6

Everyone according to what is his of the voice, and everyone knows to purify his soul in that place of the nut [i.e., a shell or enclosure]: for there is no joy, [it is] common upon its likeness, in the yoke of Sheol.

The intellect of the will descends to the waters, [but it] does not profit him; and let it be [a source of] trembling concerning the ascent of that which has emerged from him. Regarding him who commanded [that one] not return to us, that he arrives at his place; thus, it is for us, concerning the good things [which] the wretched ones [have rejected]. Because our Lord commanded us in all the paths, let us not fall: let us bring our soul that fasting may polish [it] from the rust. [One] weeps that [it] is concerning the requests for which there is no reward: but if he returns in the solitude of the preacher the physician [is present]. The Lord [said] to us that before the judgments concerning debts, not [to act] in vain; but discrimination concerning the judgments: not the revealed ones which [one] gives to the destroyers; but to take [them], not life, he contemplates in fasting. The Lord [said] to us to put on holiness instead of the spiritual [one]; penitent, however, from what you weigh upon debts. Do not drag it to the death that [is] before [one], for it does not profit him; for the hearing, [he] brought [that] which is near him instead of the sacrifices. The stone of the body and the altars which our Lord commanded, [he] was not weak in the judgments [of] the dead [of] our Lord. The altars [do] not live for the physician who came, for before [one] weeps that the shedding of his nature in them is trampled. See, do not perish that [is] before the evil one concerning the destroyers; [entrust to the Lord that to Him and His is...]
