Since this little book had already been fully printed by our presses over a year ago, and lacked nothing except a preface from the editor—a man most famous and highly distinguished for his wealth of learning—who, however, had been called away to other very serious duties and business in his own country Nicolaus Schow (1754–1830) was a Danish philologist who returned to Copenhagen to fulfill academic and administrative roles., he did not have the leisure to write it, despite our requests by letter. We did not wish to allow this little work to be suppressed in our hands any longer, nor for lovers of literature original: "harum litterarum amatores", referring to students of classical philology and ancient texts. to be deprived of its many and varied benefits. Therefore, with the learned man’s permission, we have reprinted his "Preliminary Remarks" original: "Praemonenda", which were originally included in the preview of this work inserted in the seventh volume of the Unpublished Works of Ancient Literature and Art original: "Bibliothecae veteris litter. et artis Ineditis", a series edited by Schow and others to share newly discovered ancient texts., page 21 and following:
