3 In the same way, one must be cautious of those who participate in divine words: whether they approach them merely to satisfy curiosity, as if looking at the architecture of cities, or whether they come for the sake of transformation, having learned that those consecrated to Christ are partners in what is necessary. But as for the hypocrites, let them be; if, however, someone "does not wish to seem righteous, but to be so," it is appropriate for him to be conscious of the highest goods within himself.
7, 1 If, then, "the harvest is great, but the laborers are few," it is fitting to pray that we might have an abundance of laborers. Agriculture is twofold: one is unwritten, the other written. In whichever way the Lord's worker sows noble wheat, and increases and harvests the stalks, he will truly appear as a divine farmer.
2 "Work," says the Lord, "not for the food that perishes, but for that which remains to eternal life." Nourishment is received either through food or through words. And indeed, "blessed are the peacemakers," who instruct those struggling in this life and in error, wandering due to ignorance, and who lead them to the peace found in the word and in a life according to God, and who feed those who hunger for righteousness through the distribution of the bread.
3 For there are also souls that have their own nourishment: some grow through acquaintance and knowledge, others graze on Greek philosophy, of which, just like walnuts, not everything is edible.
4 "But he who plants and he who waters," being servants of the one who gives the growth, "are one" in their service, "but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor. For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building," according to the apostle.
8, 1 Therefore, one must not permit listeners to make their own judgment based on comparison, nor should the word be handed over for examination to those who have been raised in the arts of all kinds of words and the powers of puffed-up arguments—those who have already captured their souls and have not first emptied them out.
