A woodcut depicts the central and lower portions of the page covered in elaborate calligraphic pen trials (probationes pennae pen tests) written in brown ink. These consist of several lines of rhythmic, repeated vertical "minim" strokes, characteristic of scribe exercises. Below these is a line of highly stylized cursive text, followed by a final line with a large, sweeping decorative flourish.
