to express the property of the divine nature, he himself said in the Gospel, Before Abraham was, I am. If you believe in God, believe also in me. I will be with you even unto the end of the world. And many other things of this kind are read in the holy Gospel, especially in that which is according to John. But do these not most precisely express the conditions differing in Christ, or his natural properties? So that those who first used those terms invented nothing of their own.

Again, there are also other properties granted to bodies after the resurrection from the dead, which are called the gifts of glorified bodies, and are conferred upon bodies purged from accidental or infirm conditions, yet so that those substantial properties are not at all overturned. Of which we shall say more shortly.

However, it does not seem to be dissembled at present that the Lord’s body, even before the resurrection and clarification, sometimes fell into and took upon itself actions otherwise alien to the common property of a human body, inasmuch as they are beyond and above nature, depending indeed on a higher cause: as that he walked at Nazareth and elsewhere through the midst of his enemies who wished to stone him or cast him down from a cliff, and that he walked upon the waters, that he endured fasting for forty continuous days, and
