Union.
Furthermore, the word Union, which Cyril gladly used, signifies the coherence or connection of two natures, constituting one person. Irenaeus, and in some way Vigilius, used the word mixture, which is not equally approved by all; the blessed Augustine used conjunction; and some of the ancients used society. But just as in one Deity three are called ὑποστάσεις hypostases/persons, that is, persons subsisting of themselves, so to the Greeks the conjunction of divinity and humanity in Christ is called a ὑποστατικὴ hypostatic or personal or subsistential union, that is to say, one which gathers and connects different essences or natures, even if they be different, into one and the same hypostasis substance/person.
