Snorting. Breathing.
When the nose has been blown with two fingers, it must soon be trampled underfoot. It is indecorous to breathe through the nostrils with a constant sound; that is a sign of bile. It is even more shameful to make snorting sounds original: "ronchos", which is the behavior of the insane, if it is done by habit. For those who are short of breath original: "orthopnoea", who suffer from asthma, one must grant indulgence. It is ridiculous to emit sound through the nostrils, for that belongs to horn-blowers and elephants.
Sneezing.
To wrinkle the nose is for mockers and fools. If a sneeze happens when others are present, it is civil to turn the body away: then, having lifted your cap and saluted those who either greeted you or were about to greet you (for sneezing, just like yawning, completely takes away the senses for a moment), ask for pardon or give thanks. In the case of a sneeze, it is religious to say "bless you" original: "salutare"; and if several elders are present, who are greeting a man or a woman of honor, it is the duty of a boy to uncover his head. Furthermore,
Ringing of the voice.
to intentionally strain for a ringing sound, or to repeat a sneeze on purpose, obviously for the display of one's strength, is the act of a trifler. To suppress a sound that nature produces is for the inept, who value manners more than health.
