XI.
The progressed and evident causes of all fevers are whatever brings about a hotter temperament: the heat of the sun and the warmth of any surrounding environment, fatigue and violent labor, vigils, fasting, immoderate Venus sexual activity, the agitation of a fluctuating mind, anger, those intent upon cares and thoughts, and those contracted by fear and sadness.

Likewise, things assumed, applied, and arising. Assumed, such as untimely medicine, stronger wine, etc. Applied, such as plasters made from hellebore or any caustics. And the things arising, as I shall say, do not allow themselves to be ignored, namely anthrax and bubo.
XIII.
But the most serious of all are crudity indigestion/undigested matter, whether contracted from an excessive abundance of food and gluttony, or from stronger wine, or from the eating of fruits and corrupted foods.
XIV.
The suppression of natural evacuations due to the density and constipation of the skin, either from cold or from an astringent bath: atrocious torments, which inflame the body and agitate the humors.
ON THE EPHEMERAL FEVER.
XV.
Ephemeral fever is heat contrary to nature, residing primarily in the spirits. Called diaria daily by the Latins, from the course of one day, although sometimes it runs longer.
XVI.
Its origin is mostly from evident causes, by whose force and impulse the thin, hot, and fervent spirit of all things that are in the body is ignited most readily.
