In the Renaissance esoteric tradition, Moses was a foundational figure of the Prisca Theologia, regarded by Neoplatonists like Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola as a contemporary of Hermes Trismegistus who received both the written Law and a secret, oral Kabbalistic wisdom.
