Gli artificiosi e curiosi moti spiritali (Aleotti 1647)
Hero of Alexandria; Giovanni Batista Aleotti (trans.)
No prior complete English translation of this text has been found.
While Hero of Alexandria's 'Pneumatica' has been translated into English from the original Greek (notably by Bennet Woodcroft in 1851 and J.G. Greenwood), Giovanni Batista Aleotti's 1647 Italian translation and adaptation, 'Gli artificiosi e curiosi moti spiritali', has never been translated into English. As the instructions specify that translations of the original Greek do not count as translations of this specific Italian version, this remains a first English translation of Aleotti's text.

Step into a world where ancient Egyptian temples featured automated doors, steam-powered spheres, and the world’s first coin-operated machines. This 1647 edition of Hero of Alexandria’s masterwork reveals the 'spiritual' secrets of pneumatics and hydraulics, proving that the roots of modern robotics are over two millennia old.
