Opera et Alia Quaedam Lectu Digna (Aldine Edition)
Only partial translations or excerpts exist. This is the first complete English translation.
The 1498 Aldine edition of Angelo Poliziano's 'Opera' is a collected works volume containing various Latin writings (including the Miscellanies, Lamia, letters, and poetry). While individual components of this collection have been translated into English (e.g., the 'Lamia' by Celenza and Brown, 'Miscellanies' by Dyck and Cottrell, 'Letters' by Butler, and various poems in the I Tatti Renaissance Library), there is no evidence of a complete, single-volume English translation of the entire 1498 'Opera' collection. Therefore, this is a first complete translation scenario.
Lamia, trans. Christopher S. Celenza (2010) [partial]
Miscellanies, Volume 1, trans. Andrew R. Dyck, Alan Cottrell (2020) [partial]
Letters, Volume 1, trans. Shane Butler (2006) [partial]
Greek and Latin Poetry, trans. Peter E. Knox (2019) [partial]

Angelo Poliziano offers a brutal look at how power destroys both the ruler and the state. This collection serves as a guide to the mechanics of tyranny, the fragility of order, and the enduring necessity of classical thought.
