Patmutiwn Makabayetswots (History of the Maccabees - Armenian)
Anonymous (Armenian tradition)
No prior complete English translation of this text has been found.
While the Books of Maccabees are well-known in English via translations from the Greek Septuagint (e.g., KJV, RSV), the specific Armenian recension found in the Zohrab Bible (1805) has not been published in a complete English translation. Catalog searches for English versions of the Armenian text of Maccabees or works by Zohrabian yielded no results for a complete translation. This 1901 edition appears to be the first instance of this specific Armenian tradition being rendered into English.

This text connects the final prayers of Tobit to the explosive military struggle of the Hasmonean revolt. Readers will encounter a brutal historical narrative that frames the Maccabean resistance as a necessary collision between pagan Hellenization and the immovable Law of Israel.
