Sancti Ephraem Syri Hymni et Sermones, Tomus I
No prior complete English translation of this text has been found.
The work 'Hymni et Sermones' (Hymns and Sermons) of Saint Ephrem the Syrian was edited and published by Thomas Joseph Lamy in four volumes between 1882 and 1902, featuring the original Syriac text with a parallel Latin translation. While various selections of Ephrem's hymns (such as those on the Nativity or Epiphany) have been translated into English by scholars like J.B. Morris (1847), Kathleen McVey (1989), and Sebastian Brock, there is no complete English translation of Lamy's specific four-volume Syriac-Latin edition. A translation of 'Volume 1' of this specific collection would constitute the first English translation of that scholarly compilation.
