Historia Critica Philosophiae
Only partial translations or excerpts exist. This is the first complete English translation.
No complete English translation of Johann Jakob Brucker's 'Historia Critica Philosophiae' (1742) exists. The widely cited work by William Enfield, 'The History of Philosophy, from the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the Present Century' (first published 1791), is explicitly described as being 'drawn up from' or an abridgment/compilation based on Brucker's Latin text, rather than a full translation. Therefore, a complete English translation of the original Latin work has not been published.
The history of philosophy from the earliest times to the beginning of the present century; drawn up from Brucker's Historia critica philosophiae, trans. William Enfield (1791) [partial] source

Johann Jakob Brucker offers a sharp, critical map of how human thought evolved from ancient myths to systematic reason. Readers will discover why many historical figures were not philosophers at all, but rather political manipulators or keepers of religious fables.
