Kokuyaku Honzo Komoku (Japanese Ben Cao)
No prior complete English translation of this text has been found.
The 'Kokuyaku Honzo Komoku' is a specific Japanese translation and scholarly edition of Li Shizhen's Chinese 'Bencao Gangmu', edited by Shirai Mitsutaro in 1917. While the original Chinese 'Bencao Gangmu' has been translated into English (notably by Paul Unschuld), no English translation of this specific Japanese text or Shirai's commentary exists in any major catalog. Following the instruction that translations from the original language (Chinese) do not count against the status of a translation from a secondary language (Japanese), this remains a first English translation of the Japanese edition.
