De synagoga vetere libri tres
No prior complete English translation of this text has been found.
Campegius Vitringa's 'De synagoga vetere' (1696) was famously abridged and condensed into English by Joshua L. Bernard in 1842 under the title 'The Synagogue and the Church'. However, no complete, unabridged English translation of the original Latin text exists in the searched catalogs (UNESCO, Open Library, Google Books). As the existing version is a condensation rather than a full translation, a new translation of the complete work qualifies as a first English translation.

Where did the Christian Church really come from? Campegius Vitringa’s monumental work argues that the blueprint for Christian worship and governance isn't found in the smoke of Temple sacrifices, but in the 'rational' and 'moral' structure of the ancient Jewish Synagogue.
