Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta, vol. 3: Chrysippus (Ethica)
Only partial translations or excerpts exist. This is the first complete English translation.
The 'Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta' (SVF) is a foundational collection of Greek and Latin fragments of the early Stoics, edited by Hans von Arnim. While the work is frequently cited and individual fragments are translated in various scholarly sourcebooks (such as Long & Sedley's 'The Hellenistic Philosophers'), there is no complete English translation of the entire four-volume work. The Open Library records for 'Stoicorum Veterum Fragmenta' in English are misleading, as they refer to the original Latin/Greek text being cataloged in English-language libraries, not to an English translation of the content. Therefore, this is a first complete translation.

Chrysippus transformed Stoicism from a loose collection of ideas into a rigorous, unbreakable system of logic and ethics. This volume captures his struggle to define exactly what it means to live in agreement with nature and why virtue alone is the only path to a stable life.
